比如Yvette Shirey决定卖掉一些旧首饰，包括一条项链，一些耳环和手镯。她将这些首饰送到一家珠宝店，得到了一千美元。虽然这些首饰有感情价值，但是作为一名失业人士，钱比首饰对她更有用。

对于很多美国人来讲，旧金首饰成了一个经济来源。上星期黄金达到每盎司1600美元的价位，创立了新高。不少人也趁这个机会卖出旧首饰。

不过，Better Business Bureau(简称BBB)提醒消费者在出售旧首饰时小心被骗，目前BBB噎收到对不少收购贵金属店的投诉，在2011年里噎有416个案例。

不论你是将首饰卖给网络上的收购店还是本地珠宝店，你都应该先了解这些首饰到底值多少钱。金饰的重量和纯度决定其价值。10K金由42%的黄金和58%的其它金属组成；14K金中含真金是58%；18K金中含75%的金。因此，一件14K的金首饰应该值928美元，就是58% X $1600 (目前黄金的市场价)；当然买主不一定肯出那么高的价格，他们通常会出价550美元到750美元之间。如果买主不肯出这样的价格，那么消费者就要小心了。

Chubb Personal Insurance的副总Janece White说，珠宝店应该告诉你每盎司或者每克的价格是多少。然后你还应该多走几个店比较。除了货比三家外，消费者应选择卖给本地的名誉比较好的珠宝店。消费者可以到BBB网站去查一下珠宝店的名誉，看看有没有其它消费者的投诉。

另外，消费者还应该注意的是：

1. 了解自己的首饰的重量：计量方法是每盎司的黄金等于31.3克，有些收购站会在重量上做手脚；
2. 清楚首饰的纯度，是10K，14K还是18K，以免上当受骗；
3. 要了解市场上的黄金价格，以保证自己得到公平的收购价格。
